Energy products rarely follow a one-size-fits-all structure. Different customer groups, energy communities and tariff models may require different billing schedules and pricing references. This month, we are introducing two updates that give utilities more flexibility in both areas.
You can now select monthly, quarterly or annual billing intervals for individual billing runs in the exnaton Backoffice. In addition, market- and formula-based tariff components can use a custom price timeseries instead of relying solely on public market indices.
Together, these updates make it easier to adapt billing and tariff configuration to specific products, contractual agreements and internal processes.

By selecting “User-defined” in the “Market Index” field, you can use a price series configured specifically for your account. This makes it possible to model tariffs based on individually agreed, proprietary or internal pricing sources.
The feature is particularly useful when the tariff price depends on a commercial agreement or an internal price series rather than a standard market benchmark.
Currently, one custom price series is supported per account. The price source must be registered with exnaton before it can be selected in the tariff configuration.
Would you like to issue quarterly or annual invoices for selected accounts or energy communities? This is now possible directly in the exnaton Backoffice.
When creating a new billing run, simply select the appropriate billing interval—monthly, quarterly or annually—and choose the period you want to invoice.
This provides greater flexibility for products and customer groups that do not require monthly billing. Quarterly or annual billing can also reduce the number of invoices generated and, as a result, lower the administrative workload for accounting teams.
